MAPUTO, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- The Mozambican National Election Commission (CNE) said Thursday that all security conditions in the voting process are being safeguarded across the country, but they are still concerned about the situation in the northern province of Cabo Delgado.

The information was expressed in Maputo by CNE President Abdul Carimo, who spoke to the press during the reception of the election observers of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP).

"We will make sure that the election takes place wherever possible and where there is no threat to people's lives," said Carimo, adding that the committee will meet with the observers to review and decide on coping strategy on the situation of the imminent danger in Cabo Delgado.

The northernmost province Cabo Delgado has been put on alert over armed attacks by insurgents, which may jeopardize the election process in the region.

In another separate meeting on Thursday, Mozambican Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Jose Pacheco said the government will ensure the security of the electoral observers posted for the Oct. 15 general elections in Cabo Delgado.

"All the work is being done by the Defense and Security Forces so that citizens can exercise their voting rights and that observers can have the security they need to do their work," said Pacheco.

The minister added that any situation that might prevent access to certain areas will be reported through official channels.

"The government believes that the conditions are in place for voting and for the accounting of electoral results to take place across the country," he said.
