BERLIN, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Special forces in Germany have arrested a Russian national on Wednesday who is accused by state prosecutors of planning to carry out a deadly terror attack in the country.
The federal prosecution office confirmed on its website that the 31-year-old Magomed-Ali C. was taken into custody and that his Berlin apartment had been also searched by officers of the GSG 9 special forces commando and the Federal Criminal Police Office.
Prosecutors described the terror suspect as a "radical Islamist" who is believed to have colluded with fellow jihadist Clement B. to produce large amounts of highly explosive Triacetontriperoxid (TATP) to murder as many civilians as possible at an undefined location in Germany.
The plans of the duo were first disrupted by a pre-emptive police investigation back in October 2016 which led Clement B. to flee from Germany to France where he was incarcerated in April of the following year. At the time of his arrest in Marseille, Clement B. was in possession of several firearms and three kilograms of TATP.
Prosecutors told press on Wednesday that they hoped to gain clarity from Magomed-Ali C.'s arrest about the whereabouts of additional stocks of explosives produced by the two suspects in Berlin which were still unaccounted for.
Magomed Ali C. will be presented to a magistrate of the German federal constitutional court on Thursday.
