HUANGSHAN, China, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- Ning Zetao easily claimed the title of men's 100m freestyle with a new Asian record of 47.65 seconds at the Chinese national swimming championships here on Friday.
Ning said he did not expect to break the record because he felt tired and was out of training for a while after the Incheon Asian Games. "I still have many things to improve and need more training," said Ning.
Although placing third in the preliminary of 100m freestyle, Olympic champion Sun Yang gave up the opportunity to the final so as to focus on his specialty event. In the men's 400m freestyle, Sun won the gold in three minutes 43.65 seconds.
Xu Jiayu from Zhejiang took his third gold in the men's 100m backstroke in 53.50 but he still felt unsatisfied, "I can swim faster," said Xu.
Fu Yuanhui from Zhejiang topped the women's 100m backstroke in 1:00.17 while Olympic champion Ye Shiwen placed sixth in this event.
In other competitions, Li Zhuhao from Zhejiang topped the men's 100m butterfly in 52.45, Jiangsu's Zhang Yufei claimed the women's 400m freestyle title in 4:07.11, Shanghai's Shi Weijia won the men's 50m breaststroke in 28.02 and anther Jiangsu swimmer Shi Jinglin clocked 2:22.99 to grab the women's 200m breaststroke gold.
In the women's 4x100m freestyle relay, Beijing, Zhejiang and Shanghai were the top three teams.
