BOSTON, April 21 (Xinhua) -- Meb Kefelzighi won the Boston Marathon men's title for the U.S. on the event's 118th version on Monday.
The last American to win the world's oldest marathon event was Greg Meyer, who claimed title in 1983.
Kefelzighi, silver medallist in the 2004 Olympics, broke the tape with a record of 2:08:37. In memory of the last year's bombing, Kefelzighi wrote the names of the victims on the four corners of his bib.
"I'm blessed to be an American and God bless America and God Bless Boston for this special day," said the veteran who would celebrate his 39th birthday three weeks later.
Wilson Chebet and Frankline Chepkwony, both from Kenya, took the second and third place respectively.
