BRISBANE, Australia, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- Australian captain Michael Clarke has been fined 20 percent of his match fee over his sledging of England bowler Jimmy Anderson in the first Ashes Test at the Cabba in Brisbane, local media reported on Monday.

The International Cricket Council ruled that Clarke had breached its code of conduct relating to "using language or a gesture that is obscene, offensive or insulting during an international match".

Stump microphones detected Clarke telling Anderson to "Get ready for a broken f***ing arm" when the England number 11 was at the crease late on Sunday, local media reports said

Clarke has also been reported to have wagged his finger in a close-up confrontation with Anderson.

He accepted the sanction but stood by his sledging, saying "There is always banter on the field, especially between Australia and England, they are two teams who always play hard, tough cricket on the field."

"I am not going to go into what was said on the field. It is part and parcel of the game, but we all respect England as players," he told reporters.

Australia took a commanding 1-0 lead after closing out a thrilling 381-run win by bowling England out for 179 late on day four of the first Ashes Test at the Gabba.
