SANTOS, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- Reigning champions Fluminense slipped to within one point of the relegation zone on Sunday after an 1-0 loss to Santos in the Campeonato Brasileiro.
Former Cagliari and Bordeaux forward Thiago Ribeiro struck the winner in the 65th minute when he tapped in from close range after Arouca's cross at the Vila Belmiro stadium.
The result lifted Santos to eighth in the standings while Fluminense dropped to 16th, only out of the relegation zone on goal difference.
"We didn't have the right attitude and that's a concern heading into the last couple of matches," said Fluminense coach Dorival Junior.
"The most concerning thing was that we were passive. We have to have the strength to respond."
In other matches on Sunday, Atletico Paranaense thrashed Nautico 6-1; Ponte Preta drew 1-1 with Gremio; Flamengo beat Corinthians 1-0; International drew 0-0 with Coritiba; Sao Paulo drew 1-1 with Botafogo and Bahia defeated Portuguesa 1-0.
