BUENOS AIRES, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- Boca Juniors defeated River Plate 1-0 at a home game Sunday, winning Argentinean "superclassic" between the nation's two most popular teams in the 10th match of the national Opening Tournament.
Forward Emmanuel Gigliotti scored the one and only goal of the game at Buenos Aires' Monumental Stadium, which was filled only with local fans, as the visitors were barred from attending.
Boca now has accumulated 19 points, putting it just four points behind leading national team Newell's, while River is out of the 14-team competition.
River, under the direction of coach Ramon Diaz, saw two potential goals bounce off the posts, while Boca, led by Carlos Bianchi, saw one goal attempt deflected off the posts.
