EDINBURGH, July 21 (Xinhua) -- Phil Mickelson of the United States on Sunday won the British Golf Open Championship 2013 title and his first Open Championship at Muirfield in East Lothian, Scotland.
Mickelson won by three shots from Sweden's Henrik Stenson, who carded a round of 70, while England's Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood and world number four Adam Scott finished joint-third on level par.
Mickelson teed off two over - five off the lead - but steadily came through the field and superb approaches to the last two holes clinched the title.
The 43-year-old Mickelson won his first title in Britain with victory in the Scottish Open just one week ago at Castle Stuart Golf Links at Balnaglack Farmhouse in Inverness in northern Scotland.
Organized by the R&A, which jointly administers the Rules of Golf, Rules of Amateur Status, Equipment Standards and World Amateur Golf Rankings with the United States Golf Association, The Open Championship 2013 was held on July 14 to July 21.
