英语文摘:Chinese, S.Korean media seek to enhance exchange, cooperation

SEOUL, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Delegations from the Chinese and South Korean mainstream media organizations gathered here on Monday, seeking to further deepen exchange and cooperation between the two countries' media sector.

The 8th China-South Korea Media High-level Dialogue focused on media's role in the development of bilateral relations between the two countries.

China's Xinhua News Agency, People's Daily, China's Central Television, South Korea's Chosun Daily, Yonhap and 30 other mainstream media organizations from both sides attended the dialogue.

Delegations from both sides vowed to strengthen the media role in the development of bilateral relations as the two countries have agreed to become partners that share common development, commit to regional peace and Asia's revitalization, and boost world prosperity.

Addressing the dialogue, Vice Editor-In-Chief of China's Xinhua News Agency Zhou Zongmin said that the media from both countries have played a special and important role in the development of bilateral relations. The media from both countries shoulder the responsibility to promote the mutual understanding between the two peoples, and to maintain and consolidate the good momentum in the development of bilateral ties.

Zhou put forward a four-point proposal on deepening cooperation between the Chinese and South Korean media,

Firstly, Zhou called on the media outlets from both countries to become promoters of bilateral relations, focusing on the coverage of development in and the friendly exchanges between the two countries.

Secondly, he said the media outlets from both sides should be liaisons of economic and trade exchanges between the two countries, focusing on the coverage of the connection between China's Belt and Road initiative and South Korea's Eurasia Initiative.

Thirdly, the media outlets from both countries should be maintainers of regional peace, focusing on the coverage of efforts made to boost peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula as well as the common prosperity in Northeast Asia, he said.

Fourthly, the media outlets from both countries should be pioneers in transformation and innovation, focusing on the coverage of exchange and cooperation on fusion development between the traditional and new media, Zhou added.

President of Yonhap's Informax Lee Hong-ki said that based on the spirit of mutual respect, both media should provide more opportunities for exchanges to deepen understanding.

Director of South Korean MBC Kim Jangg-yeon said both countries' media should not only facilitate in expanding cultural and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries, but also should grasp the correct direction.

The media from both countries signed six cooperative agreements at the opening ceremony.

Launched in 2009, the China-South Korea Media High-level Dialogue is held once a year in China and South Korea in rotation. It is aimed at promoting in-depth discussions on issues of common concern, strengthening mutual trust and cooperation and creating a harmonious opinion atmosphere for deepening the strategic cooperative partnership between the two nations.
