CHENGDU, July 26 (Xinhua) -- The Harrow Family of Schools, the alma mater of Winston Churchill and other dignitaries, is seeking to set up a school in southwest China, which would be its second campus on the Chinese mainland after Beijing, a top local official said Thursday.

The establishment of Harrow International School in Chengdu has made "substantial progress" since the school signed a partnership agreement with a local company, said Huang Xinchu, secretary of the Chengdu municipal committee of the Communist Party of China.

Huang made the comments after meeting with a group of officials from Harrow led by Mark Hensman, executive headmaster of Harrow International Schools. Huang said the school would provide a top quality education for Chengdu's business expatriates.

Harrow has set up schools in Beijing and Bangkok, Thailand. Previous media reports said the Harrow International School in Beijing took foreign students aged 11 to 18 and charged an extraordinary fee of around 1.1 million yuan (173,228 U.S. dollars) for the seven years of education.
