名人教英文：杀狗狂徒
港岛半山有个杀狗狂徒，专门在宝云道和布力径一带放置有毒肉饵，诱杀狗只。日前英文报章的有关报道说：
→ all the cases have been along bowen road and in the black's link area, and have involved dogs eating meat laced with pesticide that causes them to suffer an excruciating death.
→ meat suspected to have been laced with insecticide was also found in previous poisoning attempts in black's link.
文中的insecticide和pesticide两字，后面的 -cide是杀死的意思。前面的insect是昆虫，insecticide是用来杀死昆虫的药物，杀虫剂。同样，pest即害虫，pesticide就是（农人用来）杀死害虫的药物，即农药。政府忠告市民，蔬菜要彻底洗净才可食用，以防吃下残余农药：vegetables should be washed thoroughly to ensure that any pesticide is washed off.
