(BEIJING, July 16) -- Aiming to dominate the medals count at the rapidly approaching Beijing Olympics, the USA Track & Field (USATF) organization has selected 126 leading competitors for the athletics squad of the USA team.Jill Geer, the USATF's director of communications, said in an interview with the official website of the Beijing Olympics that the United States hopes to remain a powerhouse in terms of track and field events at the Olympics: "Our hope for medals is always to remain the world's #1 team."The USA Track & Field reported on its official website that the USA athletics team will include 15 Olympic medalists, 31 World Outdoor Championships medalists and 11 individual outdoor American record holders.The USATF's Geer told a reporter at the official website of the Beijing Olympics that the American team's goal is to remain the leader in terms of winning gold, silver and bronze in athletics competitions at the Summer Games, just as it did at the 2004 Olympics in Athens."Our goal is to stay on top of the medal tables," she said. "We will continue to win medals in traditionally strong events, such as the sprints and hurdles, but we always have surprises, too."The USATF reported on its website that the USA athletics national team won a total of 25 medals
