Wen also congratulated Belgium for successfully hosting the eighth Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) and appreciated the efforts Belgium made to prepare for the 13th China-EU summit.

Leterme highly appreciated the important role China has played in ASEM. He said Belgium adheres to the one China policy and attaches importance to its traditional friendship with China.

Further developing friendly cooperative relations with China is in the common interest of the two countries and peoples, Leterme said.

Belgium wishes to work with China to advance bilateral ties by enhancing high-level and people-to-people exchanges, expanding pragmatic cooperation on economy, trade and technology and celebrating the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties in 2011.

Also Wednesday, Wen met Belgium's King Albert II and conveyed to him the regards and best wishes from Chinese President Hu Jintao.

Wen said he appreciated the long-term efforts the Belgian royal family have made to promote the China-Belgium friendship, communications and cooperation.

For his part, Albert II asked Wen to convey his regards to Hu. He highly valued the great achievements China has obtained in economic and social development as well as the positive and constructive role China plays in international affairs.

Albert said he hoped the two countries will enhance high-level exchanges and broaden their communications and cooperation in economy and trade, science and technology, culture, and education.
