A 2013 survey by the Chinese Academy of Press and Publication shows that an average Chinese adult reads less than five books a year.

The survey shows that Chinese people spend around 13 minutes a day reading, but nearly an hour surfing the internet.

To address the issue, CCTV has launched a campaign on the Twitter-like service Weibo to urge the public to extend their reading time to half an hour per day.
