More than 2,000 swimming enthusiasts have taken part in the Yangtze River crossing in Wuhan.
The event includes three sessions: women’s individual, men’s individual, and public participation.
Individual challengers swam 1,800 meters from bank to bank, while group challengers were tested for their stamina, and swam a longer 5,000 meters.
It’s open to both swimmers from home and abroad, as long as they pass physical fitness tests.
The Yangtze-River crossing event dates back to 1956, when Chairman Mao swam across the river at the age of 73. He composed a poem to express his enthusiasm for the sport. Since then, people have been encouraged to take the dip nearly every year.
