China’s new Foreign Minister Wang Yi says he hopes relations between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan could be further improved. Wang Yi was formerly the director of Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council.
He invited journalists from Taiwan to dinner before leaving for his new post. The Foreign Minister says he hopes his successor, Zhang Zhijun, will be able to visit Taiwan, and that cross-Straits relations will be improved.
A Taiwan authority department in charge of mainland affairs has responded to Premier Li Keqiang’s speech made at his press conference. It says Taiwan hopes to expand and deepen cooperation with the Chinese mainland for the stability of the region and the benefit of the people.
