海外留学变得越来越难

Although more and more Chinese are studying abroad, getting into schools overseas is getting harder every year. Let's find out why.

Colleges in the U.S., the U.K. and Australia are always the first choice for Chinese students who want to study abroad. But getting into those schools is only getting harder -- and more expensive. Most colleges in the U.S. have already raised their entrance standards this year. They’ve also increased tuition fees.

Meanwhile, the ongoing financial crisis has tightened budgets for college education. That means it’s more difficult for overseas students to apply for scholarships. And with more Chinese students looking to get into the top 100 colleges in the U.S., the competition is tougher than ever.

Wang Jing, Business Insider, said, "Normally, overseas students account for no more than 10 percent at American colleges. In the coming two or three years, the competition among Chinese students who want to study in the U.S. will get quite fierce. "

In the U.K., the standard for overseas students has also been raised. At the end of last year, a new visa policy began requiring higher English language proficiency scores for Chinese students.

In recent years, the number of Chinese students in the U.K. has continued to increase. And in order to provide the best education, colleges there have stuck to small-class teaching. This has also made it harder for those applying to study in the country.

Over in Australia, there is a warmer welcome for overseas students. A new visa policy came into effect this month, allowing overseas students a 2 to 4 year work opportunity after they graduate.
