Chinese New Year falls on February 10th, and most of the train tickets for the travel rush in South China's Guangdong province are taken. 8.5 million tickets were released and 7 million sold just the next day, a new record.
During the 40-day holiday travel period, passengers will make an estimated 20 million trips in and out of the province. That’s nearly a tenth of all trips nationwide. Early pre-sales nearly 3 weeks ahead of release time and more ticket agents this year are the main factors in the speedy sales.
Surveys show 22 million migrant workers in the province want to return home, nearly three times Guangzhou railway’s transport capacity.
