People across the country have been celebrating the Chongyang Festival, or the Double Ninth Festival. It’s a traditional Chinese holiday to honor and pay respect to elders, and appreciate the wisdom they pass down. Let’s take a closer look at this important of Chinese culture.
In Yangzhong city of East China’s Jiangsu Province, a dozen senior residents celebrated the Chongyang Festival with kindergarteners. The elders performed tai chi, the age-old practice considered one of the secrets of longevity.
And the elders are passing on tips to the young ones intrigued by the performances, curious kids are eager to learn from the "masters", who have been practicing the martial art for decades.
M, Chi said, "I wish them all good health and happiness!"
Zhu Hengwu, Yangzhong, Jiangsu, M, Chi said, "We’re very happy indeed to celebrate the festival with the lovely kids. I’m glad that they liked our performances. To be honest, just to be with the kids made me feel young and live!"
In Sanya city in South China’s Hainan Province, 16 senior residents all over 100 years old, gathered for a local "longevity festival". A photo exhibiton featuring the stories of Hainan’s ’hundred-year-olds’ has opened to the tourists.
Chongyang Festival is also known as Double Ninth Festival as it is celebrated on the ninth day of the ninth lunar month. This year the two-thousand-year-old tradition fell on October 23rd.
