September the 10th has been designated as Teacher’s Day in China. On the 28th Teachers’ Day, students across the country are taking the chance to express their thanks to their teachers. But at one special school in Beijing, some teachers are celebrating in a different way.
It is a poem written to the teachers. The writers are these hearing-impaired children. Although it still sounds different, they are trying hard to make their voices heard as clearly as possible.
In Beijing Tianyun center for hearing-impaired children, more than 60 students have been sent to here to receive hearing and speech rehabilitation. Nearly 20 teachers work at the center. Quan Guiyun is one of them, and has spent 10 years taking care of students. This teacher’s day is special for her, as one of her students has been accepted at a college in Beijing. It is her first student to achieve that.
Quan Guiyun, teacher of Tianyun Center for Hearing-Impaired Children, said, "On the first Teacher’s Day, I was a student in college. Over the years, I have sent many groups of children to normal schools. I hope my students can fit into society and live a normal life in the future."
Some small children have trouble understanding what Teacher’s Day is about, but they know their teachers are their best friends as some times they call them "mum".
Art class is one of the children’s favourites. Because of their hearing problem, sometimes the children can’t express themselves properly. Painting and writing is one way to express their feelings. Today they’ve created some colorful cards to express their gratitude.
Teacher Bao Hongwei has lost his hearing on his left ear. Despite such difficulties, he has been here for 2 years. Seeing the colorful paintings, he knows his efforts have paid off.
Bao Hongwei, teacher of Tianyun Center for Hearing-Impaired Children, said, "They are good at painting, I stayed here because I love teaching these children painting."
The dancing and cards have provided a special celebration for teachers on such a special day. But for many teachers here, the best gift is seeing their children make progress everyday.
