Walking, running and even dancing, humanoid robots have been pitting their moves against each other at the International Robot Olympic Games in northern China.

17 international teams have travelled to Harbin to put their robots through the test across 17 disciplines, ranging from sprinting kung fu to boxing and dance.

The rules: robots must be less than 60 centimetres long and be built in human form, with a head, two arms and two legs.

Woojin Lee, whose team Rabun Gap represents the US, is fascinated by his metallic athletes: "I'm pretty sure all those robots in there have been through like thousands and thousands of hours of work until they make it like that and probably that when you see a robot actually working after your work, that's when you feel most excited."

Contest machines dressed up with break dances, popped, locked and rolled to South Korean R&B, and the cheering of the surrounding crowds.

"I'm really embarrassed, thank you, everyone."

Notes:

She dresses up in elizabethan costume for the fancy-dress ball.

Have you ever tried break dance?
