New marks are being set in track and field at the World Indoor Championships in Doha. Chinese Zheng Xingjuan set a new Chinese national record on her way to a fifth place in the women's high jump on Saturday.
Zheng Xingjuan failed to clear the 1.94 meter mark twice, but she didn't give up. She took on the bar for the third time, and this time, she successfully rose to the challenge.
The result earned Zheng fifth place in the overall standings. But it also broke a record in the Chinese national books which had held for 13 years. Blanka Vlasic of Croatia won the title with a 2 meter jump.
Chinese athlete Xie Limei finished 7th place in the women's triple jump with a 14.3 meter effort. Olga Rypakova from Kazakhstan jumped 15.14 meters for the gold medal.
The Berlin world championship bronze medalist Gong Lijiao of China successfully advanced to the final of the women's shot put. She tossed 18.87 meters to grab 4th place in the qualificiation. But teammate Liu Xiangrong failed to earn the final spot by finishing 11th.
