Due to the upcoming Spring Festival and the plan to build Hainan into a top international tourism destination, the cost of traveling to and staying on the island is up by around a fifth on last year's holiday.
The rise is mostly reflected in air tickets and hotel prices. Despite the increase, online travel agency C-trip says 60% of its tours have already sold out for the upcoming spring festival which falls in February. And Hainan Airline is increasing the number of flights by nearly a fifth between the island and cities like Beijing, Xi'an and Guangzhou to meet the rising demand.
