With winter approaching, A/H1N1 influenza is once again the focus of public attention in China. Authorities around the nation are taking comprehensive measures against the virus.
China is now experiencing a new round of A/H1N1 flu infections with the flu season coming earlier than previous years. The number of cases is rising rapidly and the disease is becoming more widespread. Most of the cases are in schools, especially after the start of the new term in September.
Feng Zijian, expert of Chinese Center For Disease Control, said, "With the weather turning cold, we predict that the A/H1N1 influenza will spread faster, and then the number of infected people will grow. There will be more seriously ill patients. So our future prevention work will focus on the medical preparation for the virus."
Facing the new situation, authorities have intensified preventive measures. The country has begun mass vaccinations to protect the public. Measures are also be taken to prevent flu outbreaks in communities. Medical institutions have prepared adequate equipment, medicines and other materials for possible outbreaks.
Liang Wannian, Emergency Office of Health Ministry, said, "We have asked health departments and hospitals at all levels to be well prepared for possible outbreak. At the same time, we required them to also provide good service for people's daily medical needs."
The Health Ministry says the treatment is another focus of current work. Medical workers will try to reduce the number of seriously ill patients as well as the number of deaths.
