GAZA, June 2 (Xinhua) -- Three Palestinian fishermen were injured on Tuesday by Israeli naval forces gunfire while fishing in northern Gaza Strip, according to a Palestinian official and medics.
Nizar Ayyash, chairman of the Gaza fishermen association told Xinhua that the three fishermen were on their boat fishing in the water on northern Gaza Strip beach when an Israeli naval force attacked them and their boat.
"The three were moderately injured and were taken to Shiffa Hospital in Gaza city for treatment," said Ayysah, while medical sources in the hospital confirmed that three fishermen are receiving medical treatment.
According to Israel Public Radio, the Israeli army opened fire at the fishermen's boat after they violated the allowed area for fishing, which is six miles.
Gaza fishermen are complaining that they are harassed by the Israeli army naval forces, where the forces chase their boats, open fire at them, destroy their boats and arrest some of them.
On Monday, Ayyash said that the Israeli naval forces detained five fishermen in the middle of the water while they were fishing in northern Gaza Strip. In March, a Gaza fisherman was shot dead by Israeli naval forces.
At the end of last summer's Israeli war on Gaza, Egypt brokered a ceasefire with Gaza militants and it was agreed that the allowed fishing area was expanded from three to six miles.
