RAMALLAH, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) on Tuesday slammed the visit of Israeli President Reuven Rivlin to a Jewish settlement in the southern West Bank city of Hebron.

The PNA Foreign Affairs Ministry said in a press statement that the visit of Rivlin to Hebron on Tuesday is "an Israeli escalation that calls for confiscation of land and expansion of settlements."

"The visit aims at seizing the old city of Hebron and all the Palestinian territories classified as areas (C). The visit also expresses the Israeli arrogance and the rebel on the international law and the will for making peace," it said.

Meanwhile, the Israeli army forces suppressed a popular demonstration which took place at the entrance of Hebron, according to a statement of the Palestinian Popular Struggle Coordination Committee.

The statement said "the demonstration's objective was to express the rejection of the provocative visit of the head of the Zionist entity, Reuven Rivlin, in Hebron."

Witnesses said several Palestinians in the demonstration were injured, when Israeli soldiers dispersed the demonstration with rubber bullets and tear gas canisters.

"The visit is part of the occupation policy which aims to Judaizing Hebron's old city. Our suffering is not ending due to the ongoing threats of the settlers and the occupation forces," chairman of the Committee Munther Amira said.
