WASHINGTON, April 28 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Barack Obama and German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Wednesday stressed the importance of solving the debt crisis in Greece on the phone, the White House said.
"They discussed the importance of resolute action by Greece and timely support from the IMF and Europe to address Greece's economic difficulties," said the White House.
The ongoing debt crisis in Greece has raised concerns among leaders of the international community.
German Chancellor Merkel said on Wednesday that eurozone countries and the international community must not allow Greece's debt crisis to evolve into another Lehman-like crisis, and talks and moves on a bail-out package for Athens must be "accelerated."
The Obama administration on Wednesday also expressed concern over Greece's debt problems, adding it is closely monitoring the situation.
