MONTEVIDEO, April 4 (Xinhua) -- Uruguayan soccer club Nacional on Monday led the local Clausura tournament after extending its lead in the Cups tournament with the weekend defeat of Racing.
Nacional has 19 points, followed by Defensor Sporting and Fenix with 17 and Penarol with 16, but having played one match less Penarol is still competing for the number one spot in the Clausura tournament, local press reported.
On Saturday, Nacional defeated Racing 3-0 in the Central Park stadium with goals by Santiago Garcia at minute 66, Marcelo Gallardo at 81 and Jonathan Charquero at the 82nd minute.
Earlier on Saturday, Defensor Sporting tied 1-1 with Danubio and on Sunday Penarol took home a 5-0 win over Tacuarembo.
