英语文摘:Hu promotes concerted efforts for global economic growth at G-20 summit

Leaders of the G-20 major economies gathered in Seoul to address challenges to the ongoing global economic recovery and work out strategies to achieve strong, sustainable and balanced global growth. Hu made it clear prior to the summit that the meeting should be a gathering to promote coordination and cooperation.

The summit should continue to strengthen coordination of macro-economic policies using an "in-the-same-boat" spirit, push forward the reforms of the international financial system, push for a solution to the development issue, and oppose trade protectionism and push forward the Doha Round of World Trade Organization talks, he said.

The G-20 was established in 1999 to bring together strategically important industrialized and developing economies to discuss key issues in the global economy. The G-20 summit was held since 2008.

Hu participated in the G-20 summits in Washington in 2008, in London and Pittsburgh in 2009, and in Toronto last June.

The previous four G-20 summits formulated measures to deal with the international financial crisis. The summits have played an important role in returning the world economy to growth, stabilizing international financial markets and ensuring the confidence of the public and business.

Hu left Seoul on Friday afternoon for a meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in Japan after attending the summit and some bilateral meetings.

Hu also tried to promote cooperation in bilateral talks with the presidents of South Korea, the United States and Russia on Thursday.

He and U.S. President Barack Obama agreed to work together to advance the globally significant relations between their two countries.

China wants to have constructive communications with the U.S. on economic and trade issues to properly resolve their differences, Hu said.

The two sides should send the message to people in both countries and the international community that China and the U.S. are committed to boosting their bilateral friendship and cooperation and their role as constructive, responsible powers in the world, Hu said.
