Hello, I'm David Harper with the BBC news.

Britain, France and Germany say they've triggered a formal dispute process over Iran's violations of the international nuclear accord. The three countries said the breaches of the deal had left them no choice. Damian Grammaticas reports. In taking this step, the three European countries the UK, France and Germany say they're not seeking to join President Trump's campaign to exert maximum pressure on Iran, but instead want to save their nuclear deal with Iran from total collapse.
The deal agreed in 2015, aims to prevent Iran from building a nuclear bomb. Since President Trump pulled the US out of the deal and reimposed many sanctions two years ago, Iran has gradually been moving to break its commitments limiting its nuclear development work. By triggering the dispute resolution mechanism in the deal, the UK, France and Germany are giving around 15 days to come back into compliance.

Iran has made its first arrests in connection with its accidental shooting down of a Ukrainian passenger plane last week. The government said several people had been detained, but gave no more details. President Hassan Rouhani said everyone responsible for bringing down the aircraft must be punished. Here is Caroline Hawley. He had to say that it was an unforgivable mistake. He said that on Saturday as well. But he also suggested that a special court should be set up to try those involved. He said that it wasn't just the person who pressed the button, who should be held to account, who fired the missile at that Ukrainian airliner. It was all those in the chain of command. And I think he's trying to draw quite a distinction between himself and the military here.

Turkey has warned that it will teach a lesson to the Libyan warlord Khalifa Haftar if he resumes his attacks on Libya's UN-backed government in the capital Tripoli. The Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan made the threat after General Hafta abandoned peace talks in Moscow. The government side, which is backed by Turkey, had signed a ceasefire agreement.

A former priest in France who's at the center of one of the worst pedophile abuse scandals to hit the Roman Catholic church around the world has gone on trial. Bernard Preynat, who was stripped of his clerical status last year, is in court In Lyon. Grant Ferrett has this report. Bernard Preynat is accused of sexually assaulting dozens of boy scouts over the course of two decades from the mid 1970s. Because many of the cases date back too far to prosecute, the charges he's facing today relate to a 5-year period from the mid 1980s. Mr. Preynat has already acknowledged that he was guilty of causing suffering. A year ago, one of the most senior clerics in France, the archbishop of Lyon Philippe Barbarin was found guilty of covering up the abuse and was handed a 6-month sentence. Grant Ferrett reporting.
