Residents of a village in the western Siberia region of Russia have been warned not to return to their homes yet after firefighters spent the night tackling a blaze in an ammunition depot. At least twelve people are reported injured. Here is Sarah Rainsford. The entire area has been evacuated. There have been firefighters in protective armored vehicles going in there to battle the flames. Now we do know that the fire is now under control. The vast majority of the flames have been extinguished. But the emergency situation is still in place there. There are still some sixteen thousand people who spent the night in temporary accommodation and they've been told not to go back to the area until demining teams have been in because those are devastating explosions that were full of missiles and shrapnel.

Activists in Italy are resisting the demolition of XM24, a derelict market that's become a center of the counterculture in Bologna. A handful have taken up position in a swimming pool in the middle of the site as bulldozers tear down surrounding buildings. Here's our Europe regional editor Mike Saunders. XM24 is a classic example of what Italians call a Centro sociale, literally a social center. The squat in the working class district of Bologna has for years been tailored to communal use. It houses a school for migrants, a market garden, a medical center, and a venue for bands, mostly loud ones. To the city council, it's a nest of drug dealers and I saw blighting the new high speed train station and an obstacle to the gentrification that XM24 supporters say the city doesn't need.
