BBC News with Sue Montgomery.

At the start of the US President's state visit to Britain, a row has erupted between Donald Trump and the mayor of London. On the flight over, President Trump called Sadiq Khan a stone cold loser. Mr. Trump is now at Buckingham Palace, where he was greeted by Queen Elizabeth and will attend a lunch. Despite the earlier row, our royal correspondent Jonny Dymond says he still expects the state visit to go well.

There are almost two visits going on at the same time. There is the formal side of this visit, the royal side of this visit, which is going to, I think very, very smoothly. We saw with the state visit to Japan, President Trump is perfectly able to stay on the script. We then got the political side of the visit, which we've seen in this string of interviews that he's given to various newspapers over the last few days. And then in the tweets which have been coming out, which are extraordinary and perhaps we become inured to it a little bit. But actually they are extraordinary interventions in domestic politics in the country that he's visiting. Jonny Dymond reporting.

The NATO secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has hailed what he called the great political courage and vision of the North Macedonian Prime Minister and his Greek counterpart. On a visit to Skopje, Mr. Stoltenberg said their work on resolving a longstanding dispute about the country's name was a model for the region. North Macedonia will become NATO's thirtieth member once all the others have ratified the accession protocol signed in February.

Nanda Devi is considered one of the toughest mountains in the world to climb.
