Thousands of Rohingya muslim refugees have held angry protests at a sprawling camp in Bangladesh to mark the first anniversary of their exodus from Myanmar following a military crackdown. More than seven hundred thousand Rohingyas have fled to Bangladesh. Anbarasan Ethirajan reports. The protesters marched through the Kutupalong camp, chanting we want justice! Many wept as they recalled the brutal killings and rapes inflicted on them across the border. The violence in Myanmar's Rakhine State began exactly a year ago after Rohingya militants attacked police posts, sparking a military retaliation. Rights groups say thousands were killed and the refugees who fled the violence have told horrific stories of sexual violence and torture. Myanmar and Bangladesh have agreed to repatriate the refugees, but Rohingya leader say they will not return home unless their safety is guaranteed.

New passport requirements have come into force in Peru to control the number of Venezuelan migrants fleeing the economic crises in their country. Peru is among many south American countries struggling to contain one of the largest refugee crisis in the continent's history. Venezuelans will no longer be admitted without an identity card, but Peru's deputy Foreign Minister said children, elderly people and pregnant women would be exempted from the new passport requirement.
