There are jubilant scenes on the streets of the Zimbabwean capital Harare as tens of thousands of people gathered for a day of protests, calling for the resignation of President Robert Mugabe. The swelling crowds cheered as soldiers drove past in support of the army's role in bringing Mugabe's four-decade rule to a close. One protester said," This is our revolution."

Saad Hariri has arrived in Paris for the talks on the crisis in Lebanon sparked by his resignation as prime minister. He is there at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron who’s been trying to ease the tensions resulting from Mr. Hariri 's announcement that he is quitting.

President Trump has put on hold a controversial decision to let hunters import elephant body parts from Southern Africa. He said he would first review what he called the conservation facts.

A top US judge has used Facebook to boast that he has been sexually intimate with about fifty women. William O’Neill, higher judge and a democratic candidate for the state governor, said his revelation was a response to what he called the national frenzy about sexual indiscretions.

UN climate talks in Bonn have concluded with progress on technical issues but little headway on bigger issues of cuts to carbon emissions. The negotiators did agree to introduce a system to review countries’ attempts to reduce emissions.

There's tight security in the coastal area of Sri Lanka after an outbreak of violence between the Buddhist majority and the Muslim minority. Hundreds of riot police and army troops have been deployed after mobs attacked dozens of buildings.
