Europe has become a new frontline in the battle against coronavirus with parts of Italy now under strict quarantine restrictions. Venice's famous carnevale is being cut short because of fears about the spread of the virus. Three people have died from the disease so far in Italy and dozens of new cases have been confirmed in the northern region of Lombardy. Several towns are now in lockdown in the country's north and in the financial capital, Milan, football matches at the famous San Siro stadium have been cancelled, and schools closed indefinitely.
The coronavirus has now spread to 28 countries outside of China. South Korea has raised its alert to the "highest level" as it battles to contain a surge in the number of new infections. More than 600 people have the virus in South Korea, and six people have died so far. Meanwhile, Turkey has joined Iraq in closing its borders to neighbouring Iran in the wake of an outbreak of the coronavirus there.
More than a thousand people have gathered at Camp Hill in Brisbane's east to mourn local mother Hannah Clarke and her three young children. There were tears, and anger, as family members, community leaders and strangers paid their respects and Brisbane's Story Bridge shone pink last night in their memory. The four were murdered last week by Ms Clarke's estranged husband, who doused them in petrol and set them on fire in their car. Family and friends used last night's memorial to call for renewed efforts to combat domestic violence.
