The Canadian winter sport industry wants to promote grassroots education in China to improve people's participation of winter sports, such as skiing, hockey and curling at this year's China International Fair for Trade in Services.

Canada is one of the top nations in winter sports and has high levels of participation by children, men and women at various levels of competition.

Beijing will host the 2022 Winter Olympics, though China does not have a strong tradition of winter sports.

In response, the Beijing 2022 organizing committee has created an ambitious plan to involve 300 million Chinese people in winter sports over the next six years. The plan would raise China's participation rate in such sports from less than two per cent to twenty-two per cent.

Meanwhile, Beijing has implemented a string of promotional programs in schools, business districts and parks to expand the appeal of winter sports.

For more on this, our reporter Luo Yu caught up with Johnny Wu, Vice President of CTC Ice & Snow based in Canada at this year's CIFTIS.
