November 1st has been set for new Parliamentary elections in Turkey.

The snap election call has been made after Prime Minister Amhet Davutoglu's ruling 'Justice and Development' Party failed to cobble together a ruling coalition.

Davutoglu has been tapped to head an interim administration by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Opposition parties, including the right-wing Nationalist Movement Party, headed by Devlet Bahceli, say they won't be party to the interim administration.

"I don't think it is possible. Arguments over elections that are motivated by slanders damage our state, democracy and laws. It will be enough if Mr. Davutoglu would fulfil his duties. We don't need anything else from him."

Opposition to the current administration has been growing in recent weeks.

The decision to begin a bombing campaign against Kurdish rebel forces in southeastern Turkey is being viewed by a growing number of people in Turkey as a mistake, with polling suggesting the move has backfired on Erdogan.

The Turkish currency, the lira, has hit a series of record lows.

Consumer confidence has slumped to its weakest level in some six years.
