Eight sports made the final shortlist for Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic programme on Monday.
The combined bid of baseball and softball are among the sports shortlisted for inclusion.
The other sports shortlisted are bowling, karate, roller sports, sport climbing, squash, surfing and wushu.
Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee CEO Fujio Mitarai had this to say about the list.
"We had taken into consideration the sports' level of appeal to young people, potential popularity during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and universality around the world in addition to active involvement by International Sports Federations, based on their past experience in organising competitions. Having considered all of these factors, we have come up with this list of the additional sports."
Host cities are allowed to add additional sports for their Olympic Games in accordance with the International Olympic Committee's Agenda 2020 reforms.
The IOC will make a final decision on which sports will be added in August 2016.
