The Solar Impulse 2 has made an unplanned landing in Japan due to weather conditions.
The pilot of the solar-powered plane, Andre Borschberg, says the weather was not appropriate for the plane to cross the Pacific Ocean.
"The weather turned out to be much worse than what we had expected. We had a plan, we had a window which were simulated and found to allow us to bring the airplane to Hawaii, but this window closed in fact.
The pilot further indicates the stop is not a problem for the world-tour mission.
"I demonstrated that the airplane was really doing great. Of course now we have to find the right weather and we will continue to look for it."
The Solar Impulse 2 took off from east Chinese city of Nanjing in the earlier morning of Monday, expecting to set off for Hawaii to accomplish a six-day, six-night non-stop flight.
