广播听力:UN Talks with Interpol to Combat Violent Extremism

The United Nations Security Council has held a meeting with Interpol to discuss bettering joint efforts to fight violent extremism.

UN Secretary-general Ban Ki-moon has called for a solution to the root causes of extremism.

"Member States have to enhance their cooperation and exchange information, develop effective border controls and strengthen their criminal justice systems, in accordance with the rule of law and human rights standards."

Interpol official have also highlighted the importance of information sharing.

The UN reports that over 25,000 foreign terrorist fighters from more than 100 Member States have traveled to Syria and Iraq, as well as Afghanistan, Yemen and Libya.
