Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake has lifted the curfew imposed last week following the riots which engulfed the city.
"I think a lot of the unrest has settled down, in the sense of the protests. But that doesn't mean the work doesn't continue. We are actively engaged with the Department of Justice on collaborative review. We have been since last year in the process of improving our police department reforming our police department and putting in place things that will eliminate this type of incident from ever happening again."
The overnight curfew was established last week after rioting broke out followed the funeral of 25-year old Freddie Gray.
The young black man died while in police custody.
Maryland Governor Larry Hogan has issued a call for calm, saying Baltimore needs time to heal.
"We've all got to come together. It's a day of unity. It's a day of reconciliation, it's a day of prayers and peace for the city of Baltimore, for the people that have been affected, for Freddie Gray's family, for all the folks that lost their homes and their businesses, for the over 100 police officers who were injured on Monday night."
The rioting in Baltimore this past week is part of a series of incidents in the US connected to the death of black men and police officers.
