An American soldier and an Afghan soldier have been killed in a firefight between Afghan and NATO forces.
The fighting broke out at a compound in Afghanistan where a senior US diplomat had been meeting with a provincial governor in eastern Afghanistan.

"An Afghan army soldier opened fire on American soldiers with a machine gun and in response to the attack American soldiers opened fire and killed the soldier. Two Afghan army soldiers were wounded in the firefight and I don't have any specific information about the casualties of ISAF (International Security Assistance Forces) soldiers."
