Chinese police have apprehended a fugitive wanted for fraud, who had allegedly swindled 36 million yuan in Chengdu, southwest China's Sichuan Province.

Local police has released the video of the action to seize the suspect, surnamed Dai, in late January, six months after he fled to the Philippines.

The arrest was part of a campaign code named Operation Fox Hunt 2014, launched to track down corrupt officials and suspects of economic crimes who have fled overseas.

By the end of 2014, Chinese police had captured 680 fugitive economic criminal suspects from abroad.

Police received complaints last November that Dai had raised more than 36 million yuan from investors and promised a high interest rate of up to 50 percent before he disappeared.

Wang Mingcong is a police officer with the Shuangliu Public Security Bureau.

"He used high interest rate as bait, claiming that his project needed money, as a boss he enjoyed some social reputation, by these means he easily earned people's trust."

Dai used to be the head of a factory but he shifted to real estate business later and suffered great losses. He turned to illegal financing and fled overseas.
