Kazakhstan's president has urged Russia and Ukraine to find a way to resolve the eastern Ukraine conflict.
"I call on Russia and Ukraine to think about finding a compromise in order to overcome this situation, by preserving the territorial integrity of Ukraine and bringing together their positions. Because the current situation is nonsense, it is not normal. I hope Ukraine will get stronger by overcoming this situation. "
Nursultan Nazarbayev made the comments during a news conference in Kiev, following talks with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.
The two sides agreed to renew full-scale military and technical cooperation between the countries and announced that Kazakhstan will supply coal to Ukraine.
Later on Monday, Nazarbayev traveled to Moscow and met with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
Kazakhstan and Belarus signed a treaty with Russia in May to create a new trading bloc called the Eurasian Economic Union. It comes into force on January 1.
