Brazil's National Truth Commission has delivered a report on the killings, disappearances and acts of torture committed by government agents during the country's military dictatorship back in the last century.

More than 400 people were killed or disappeared between 1964 and 1985.

The 2,000-page document was delivered to President Dilma Rousseff, who broke down in her speech at the report's launch ceremony in the capital, Brasilia.

"I said that Brazil deserves the truth. The new generations deserve the truth. And most of all, those who deserve the truth are those who lost family members, friends, companions and continue to suffer."

Fatima Oliveira Setubal was detained and her brother was killed during Brazil's military dictatorship.

"The delivery of the report is an historic and important step, but we need to keep fighting. We cannot stop if there is no punishment for the crimes, a trial for the torturers, an opening of the files, a clarification of everything and the transformation of the places used as prisons in memorial of the resistance."

The report calls for the repeal of a 1979 amnesty law passed by the military regime preventing those responsible from being tried and punished.
