The Supreme People's Court has held an open-house to mark the first-ever Constitution Day here in China.

Around 200 people from different walks of life were invited to watch 40 judges from across the country pledge allegiance to the country's Constitution, which is now a requirement for all government employees and officials.

Among those who watched the ceremony were two men who were wrongly-convicted and spent over a decade in jail for crimes they didn't commit.

Supreme Court spokesperson Sun Jungong.

"The reason why we invited Zhang Hui and Zhang Gaoping, the victims of a case of injustice, is to express to the public that People's Courts will firmly safeguard citizens' legal rights and interests. To the innocent who suffer injustice, the courts promise to abide by the law and firmly carry on the principles of legality, presumption of innocence, and assure that all people are equal before the law. Thus, the courts will right wrongs and exonerate the disgraced."

Zhang Hui and his uncle, Zhang Gaoping, were wrongly jailed for raping and killing a 17-year-old girl back in 2004.

They were acquitted this March after a retrial found insufficient evidence to support their conviction.
