The US justice department is to launch a civil rights investigation into the death of Eric Garner, a black man who was placed in a deadly chokehold by a white New York police officer.
This is followed by a grand jury decision that cleared the charge of the police officer on Wednesday, prompting widespread street protests in New York.

"I am truly disappointed in the grand jury's decision this evening. I don't know what video they were looking at. Evidently it wasn't the same one that the rest of the world was looking at."
President Barack Obama has also commented on the case.
The President says the case "speaks to larger issues", calling for a strengthening of trust between communities and law enforcement.
This comes just a week after another grand jury returned a "no true bill" decision that meant a white police who shot dead a black teenager in Ferguson, Missouri would not face charges.
