China's Defense Ministry says it's pushing ahead with a crackdown on corruption in the military.

Ministry spokesperson Geng Yansheng has made the comments in response to reports a number of generals have been caught-up in the current corruption crackdown.

"I have to stress that the People's Liberation Army has zero tolerance for corrupt officials. We will make thorough investigations into all corruption cases in the PLA, without any leniency, no matter who is involved and however high-level the official is."

There have been several high profile corruption cases being unveiled within the PLA recently, including a bribery investigation into Xu Caihou, former vice chair of the Central Military Commission.

Meanwhile, the Chinese Defense Ministry is also downplaying reports the Chinese military has plans to build an overseas base in Namibia's only deep-water port.

"We have noticed such reports. The reports quoted an unofficial article, which had been posted on the Internet two years ago, and had exaggerated and distorted the original source."

At the same time, the Chinese Defense Ministry is also rebuffing criticism of the Chinese military's role in the fight against Ebola, saying the criticism of China's military helping to build an Ebola treatment center in Liberia "reflects a distorted mindset."
