The latest UN report on climate change has been released, once-again stressing there is conclusive evidence that climate change is happening.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's final volume of its years-long climate assessment combines the findings of three earlier reports released over the past 13 months.

The document itself offers no surprises, but underlines the scope of climate challenge.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.

"This report offers three key messages. One: human influence on the climate system is clear and clearly growing. Second: we must act quickly and decisively if we want to avoid increasingly destructive outcomes. Three: we have the means to limit climate change and build a better future."

The latest UN report also stresses that governments can keep climate change in check, but only if they cut greenhouse gas emissions to zero by the end of this century.

Rajendra Pachauri is the chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

"We have a very limited window of opportunity and I think the global community must look at these numbers and show the resolve by which we can bring about change."

The report also stresses the need for energy efficiency, along with a shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources.

The study is going to be the main document the United Nations is going to discuss when the world's leaders get together late next year for the next global climate change summit in Paris.
