A high-ranking Chinese official says the government is confident in its system of socialist rule of law with Chinese characteristics.

The comment comes after the Communist Party of China issued a decision after a key meeting promising wide ranging changes to the judicial system.

Jiang Wei is head of the office in charge of judicial reforms.

"In order to prevent intervention in court cases, the decision advises a system to monitor intervention by government officials and judicial personnel, publish their bad records, and hold them responsible, strictly forbidding judicial personnel to get in touch with a litigant or its lawyer."

He adds there is no universal or best mode for rule of law, only a most suitable one, and China is confident in its domestic version of socialism and the government will not stray from this path.

At a press conference, Jiang Wei also defended the handling of formal senior official Zhou Yongkang's case, saying it shows the Party's firm stance toward fighting corruption.

He was responding to a question of why issues related to Zhou were not mentioned at last week's CPC meeting on rule of law.

Jiang said he did not know the progress into the Zhou investigation and "is unable to" answer questions about the case.

In July, it was announced that Zhou, a former Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, had been put under investigation.

He is the highest-ranking official to be targeted by the CPC's anti-corruption campaign.
